However a close source to the player disclosed that
Conte had discussed with Mikel about handing him a
similar role as the Super Eagles.
“Mikel and Conte had a chat about his role in the team,
although he has been assured he will be played in the role
that suits him the more by the manager.
“He is also ready to fill in anywhere he is needed for the
team”, a source close to the player said.
With the new development, the chances of the Nigerian
getting more playing time at the London club has
increased because N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic
have been playing defensive midfield roles.
The 29-year-old was in superb form at the just
concluded Rio Olympics where he played as a box-to-
box midfielder under the tutelage of coach Samson
Siasia.
